Have you ever considered how the Page of Pentacles feels? The weight of the world is on her shoulders. Even as a young child, she feels the responsibility of the gift of life keenly. She has a job to do and she feels she must do it well. She understands that Earth is one big school and that any lessons we fail must be repeated.
I believe this heavy sense of responsibility is why the sky is grey in picture of the Page of Pentacles from the Faerie Tarot by Nathalie Hertz. (UK Amazon affiliate link)… but I also believe that it is this awareness about what life for that makes a bird appear as the Page of Pentacles applies his musical skills to playing the harp.
Responsibly honing our gifts and talents – even at the cost of blood, sweat and tears – is what brings not only us, but the world around us true joy. And isn’t it joy in the first instance which attracts us to picking up an instrument or learning how to write, cook or build things…?
Deep joy is always coupled with a sense of being connected to everything around us in a way that comes naturally to the Page of Pentacles (Earth of Earth). This sense of connection makes us realise that we cannot just fritter our time away.
Perhaps the most difficult task for this Page to learn is to stay connected with the Source of true JOY within so that it doesn’t become about doing for the sake of producing results but about shining our light in the world.
The hope that our lives can make a difference is the catalyst for this joy… That is the thing with feathers I see in this card.
“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.
